A well-deserved thank you is due to Jana White for arranging such an informative program last month. Larry Schokman is always informative and entertaining. He is so passionate about his love of plants and flowering trees that it becomes contagious to his audience! I hope you have enjoyed the lovely centerpieces on our luncheon tables this year. They are done by Jana with the purpose to show you that you can create a charming centerpiece from gathered materials from your yard.
I have heard many, many compliments regarding the February Workshop. The ‘Milledge Team’ did a great job. Brother’s explanation of the habits and habitats of birds was very informative; Sandy’s award winning design talents were very evident. Many said that now they just might try something like this at home and that we need more workshops like this! I agree . . . it makes for a long day but that’s what it is . . . A DAY . . . this should be why you have joined a garden club.
The planting of the Mangrove ‘pups’ was so much fun and such a success that I wish more of you had come out to see them in their new habitat. Hilda Lawhorn brought her daughter-in-law Beth and her 2 grandchildren who brought some of their friends. Nice to see the next generation of young people that care about their environment.
March traditionally has been a busy month for our Garden Club and 2014 is no different! Our Annual Field Trip this year took us to see the wonderful gardens of Marathon, a great lunch at Key Colony Inn and lots of camaraderie on the bus! We hope that next year more of you will be enticed to go along.
We have the annual Metropolitan Miami Flower Show March 14 and 15 at the University of Miami Neuman Alumni Center. This year the show is right here in our back yard so please stop by and see the show either Friday the 14th 2:00 – 4:00 PM or Saturday the 15th 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Consider entering a plant and bring home a ribbon. If you have questions about what you can and cannot enter call Sallye Jude. I also have extra schedules if you would like one just call.
Our March meeting will be for members only. We will be discussing and voting on newly proposed Bylaws and will elect our Slate of Officers. This is a very important meeting and one that all members should attend. This is your club and your opportunity to have a say. Before you yawn and say oh no . . . we will have some fun at this meeting as well . . . the Royal Palm Singers will take us on a musical journey with their program “Weed Rather Be Singing” and another delicious luncheon. Please join us!
Two reminders: When you purchase anything at Berkeley’s you MUST pay for your purchase at the time of purchase with either, check, credit card or good old fashioned cash. We do not have a house account.
A few lessons from trees . . . it’s important to have roots; it’s OK to be a late bloomer; and if you really believe in something, don’t be afraid to go out on a limb.
