Statue of Althea F. Merrick

Seated in her beloved garden of the Merrick House, a life-size statue of Althea Merrick commemorates the mother of Coral Gables founder, George Merrick. The Coral Gables Garden Club commissioned the statue, which was sculpted by the American Bronze Foundry. It was installed and dedicated in 2010, the 100th anniversary of the Merrick House.

Althea was one of the earliest members of the Coral Gables Garden Club, as was her daughter-in-law, Eunice Peacock Merrick, George’s wife, who was President of the Club in 1926-1927.
